Are you audit-ready for ISO 56001? Take the ISO 56000 Free Test in 3 minutes.
The first ever certifiable standard for innovation management is here. ISO 56001:2024 has 229 shall requirements across seven clauses. Find out exactly where your organisation stands — directly from the firm that has shaped the ISO 56000 family since 2013.
The *ISO 56000 Free Test* is two free tests on one page. Test your *personal knowledge* — available in English, Arabic, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian. Test your *organisation readiness* — built from our own ISO 56001 audit workbook. Results delivered instantly on screen. No signup. No follow-up.
The standard is real. The audit is coming. The point of this page is simple — let you find out where you stand before anyone else does. Both tests run in your browser, score in real time, and route you to the next step that fits your level. No data leaves your screen. No email gate. No follow-up call. What you get from the ISO 56000 Free Test
3 minutes, end to end
Ten focused questions per test. Scored and explained immediately. Designed for busy quality, audit, innovation and strategy leads who don't have time for a 30-minute survey.
All seven clauses covered
Innovation intent, leadership, policy, strategy, risk, objectives, resources, processes, internal audit, management review and improvement. Mapped directly to ISO 56001:2024.
Honest, directional feedback
No fake percentage score. A real four-level diagnosis — Foundational, Building, Maturing, Audit-ready — with concrete next steps for each level.
Pick your ISO 56000 Free Test — they measure two different things
There are two tests on this page and they answer two different questions. Test 1 asks how well a person understands ISO 56001. Test 2 asks how ready an organisation is to pass an ISO 56001 audit. One does not predict the other — a senior auditor can score 100 % on Test 1 while their company sits at Foundational on Test 2, and vice versa. For a complete picture, take both. Most teams run Test 1 individually to align vocabulary, then sit down together to run Test 2 as a leadership group.
Test 1 · Personal knowledge
Measures the individual. A short multilingual quiz on the ISO 56000 family — what each standard in the series covers, the key vocabulary, and the audit logic of ISO 56001. Output: your personal knowledge level. Available in English, Arabic, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian. Take it on a coffee break.
→ Take the personal testTest 2 · Organisational readiness
Measures the organisation. The full 10-question diagnostic across all seven clauses of ISO 56001:2024. Output: your organisation's readiness level (Foundational → Audit-ready) plus next-step guidance. English only for now. Best taken with your innovation, quality or audit lead in the room.
→ Take the organisational testHow well do you read ISO 56000?
Twenty-six multiple-choice questions.

Important — what the ISO 56000 Free Test is, and what it is not
ISO 56001:2024 is a copyrighted document published by the International Organization for Standardization. ISO does not publish a self-assessment quiz, and these tests are not an official ISO product. The questions, scoring logic and readiness-level definitions on this page are Innovation360 interpretations of the standard 229 shall requirements, derived from our internal audit workbook. They are designed to give you a directional read — not to replace reading the standard itself.
A second clarification on the numbers you see on this page. Innovation360 has assessed 10,000+ organisations across 105 countries through InnoSurvey® — that is our methodology base, the data and experience that informs how we built these tests. The tests on this page have not been independently validated against that population. They are short, conservative self-checks, not statistically validated diagnostic instruments.
After the ISO 56000 Free Test, read the actual standard — buy ISO 56001:2024 directly from ISO
If you are seriously preparing for certification, the single most useful thing you can do after taking this test is to buy and read the actual ISO 56001:2024 document from ISO. It is a 36-page PDF, copyrighted, available in English and several other languages. We genuinely cannot help you become audit-ready against a standard you have not read. Innovation360 does not resell ISO documents; the standard is sold directly by ISO and by national standards bodies (BSI in the UK, ANSI in the US, SIS in Sweden, AFNOR in France, DIN in Germany, and so on).
What the four readiness levels actually mean
If you score low, this is not bad news — it is the most useful information you can have right now. Here is what each level means and what to do next, so the result of the test never feels like an ambush.
Foundational (0–25 %)
Innovation happens, but informally. No documented innovation policy, no innovation objectives, no internal audit cycle. Start with vocabulary and leadership alignment — the free Fundamentals course is the right next step.
Building (26–50 %)
Some pieces of an Innovation Management System exist — strategy, ideation, maybe portfolio governance. Gaps are mostly in evidence, audit and improvement. Bring in a Certified ISO 56000 Advisor to formalise what you already do.
Maturing (51–75 %)
A working IMS is in place. Documentation, metrics and reviews exist, but coverage of all 229 shall requirements is uneven. Time for a real internal gap audit and a focused gap-closure plan ahead of certification.
Audit-ready (76–100 %)
Your IMS is essentially in place across all seven clauses. Engage an accredited certification body. Innovation360 prepares you for the third-party audit; we do not certify ourselves — that protects independence.
Why the ISO 56000 Free Test is still credible
Once the disclaimers are clear, here is the positive case. We have been at the table where ISO 56001 was written. The questions on this page are a stripped-down version of the same workbook our consultants use with paying clients. That makes them a useful starting point — even if they are not official ISO content.
ISO/TC 279 contributors since 2013. Methodology built across 10,000+ organisations.
Innovation360 has been active in ISO/TC 279 — the technical committee that authored the ISO 56000 family — since 2013. Founder and CEO Magnus Penker contributed to the development of the standards. Over twelve years we have built a methodology informed by 10,000+ organisations across 105 countries through our InnoSurvey® database — the largest of its kind. That methodology and that experience is what shapes the questions in both tests. The questions themselves are our own interpretation of ISO 56001 229 shall requirements, not a reproduction of ISO text.
The four readiness levels are calibrated against real maturity distributions we see across our consulting engagements. The tests are deliberately conservative — short, blunt, and on the cautious side. If a test tells you that you are audit-ready, the odds are good. If it tells you that you are not, take that as a gift — better a 3-minute realisation now than a failed certification audit twelve months from now.
What ISO 56001 actually is
ISO 56001:2024 is the first ever certifiable standard for innovation management. Published in 2024 by the International Organization for Standardization, it sets out the requirements for an Innovation Management System (IMS) — the same way ISO 9001 sets the requirements for a quality management system.
The standard, in plain English
ISO 56001:2024 contains 229 shall requirements distributed across seven clauses: Context of the organisation, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operation, Performance evaluation, and Improvement. It uses the harmonised structure shared with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001, which makes it straightforward to integrate with management systems you already run.
It is part of a wider family — ISO 56000 (vocabulary), ISO 56002 (guidance), and ISO 56003 through ISO 56008 (specialist topics like partnerships, IP, ideation and measurement). ISO 56001 is the only one in the family you can be certified against by an accredited third-party body. That is what audit-ready on this page refers to.

Always free, always recommended first — the ISO 56000 Fundamentals course
Before you commit to any of the three paths below, run your team through the ISO 56000 Fundamentals course. It is a complimentary self-paced online course covering the family vocabulary, the structure of ISO 56001, and the basics of an Innovation Management System. No cost, no upsell, no email gate. We give it away because every conversation about ISO 56001 goes faster when everyone in the room shares the same vocabulary.
Three concrete paths to ISO 56001 — pick the model that fits
Once you have taken the ISO 56000 Free Test and your team has the vocabulary, the real work begins. There are three sensible ways to do it. Many organisations end up combining elements of all three; the labels below reflect where the centre of gravity sits. The right answer depends on how much internal capability you already have and how much external expertise you want to lean on.
Path 1 · Internal capability
You build it. We certify your people. Send your innovation, audit, quality and compliance leads through the Certified ISO 56000 Advisor™ programme. They learn the workbook, the audit logic and the readiness methodology — and become your durable in-house ISO 56001 capability. Best for organisations with strong existing audit teams who want full ownership and minimal external dependency.
→ Become a Certified AdvisorPath 2 · Partner-led delivery
We do it. You stay in the driver's seat. Engage Innovation360 directly or one of our Licensed Practitioners across 45 countries to run the readiness assessment, the gap analysis, the IMS build and the audit prep — end to end. Same methodology everywhere, delivered locally in your language and time zone. Best when speed matters, internal bandwidth is tight, or you want senior expertise across multiple sites.
→ Engage a partnerPath 3 · Hybrid (most common)
Both, and split the work where it makes sense. Train one or two of your own people as Certified Advisors for ongoing internal audits and the long-term evolution of your IMS. Bring in our Licensed Practitioners for the heavy lifts — the first gap analysis, the IMS design, the audit dry-run before the third-party audit. This is what most multinationals choose: durable internal capability with expert support exactly where it matters.
→ Plan a hybrid engagement45 countries, one methodology, one phone call away
Whichever path you pick, the people who deliver it are real. Innovation360 operates through a network of Licensed Practitioners across 45 countries — certified experts trained in the same methodology, using the same tools, applying the same ISO 56000 rigour. If you want a partner near you, tell us where you are and we will match you. If you want to become a Licensed Practitioner yourself, the LP accreditation programme is open.

Compliance & legal notes
Five quick clarifications. (1) The questions, scoring logic and readiness levels on this page are Innovation360 interpretations of ISO 56001:2024 — not endorsed or published by ISO and not an official ISO product. (2) The 10,000+ organisations and 105 countries figures refer to our InnoSurvey® methodology base, the data and experience that informed how we built these tests, not validation of the tests themselves. (3) ISO 56001:2024 is copyrighted by the International Organization for Standardization; we do not reproduce the standard. The buy-from-ISO link earlier on this page takes you to the official ISO catalogue page. (4) Innovation360 does not issue ISO certifications — that requires an accredited third-party certification body. We prepare organisations and accredit advisors. (5) Certified ISO 56000 Advisor™ is an Innovation360 professional designation, not a formal ISO accreditation.
